(Feature photo of Jennessa taken by Kenesha Facello) Denver, CO is the world’s current capital of weed, and, with Denver being one of the fittest places in America, it’s no surprise to see so many people training with cannabis, and making gains. As consuming cannabis as an athlete increases in popularity, we’re seeing the growth of the CannaFitness industry in many forms. This includes the famous 420 Games Denver, and the opening of Break The Stigma Fitness, a cannabis friendly fitness studio opening July 23rd, with a pre-opening pary on July 9th. The studio will offer fitness classes,... Read More

June 24th, 2017

(Free entry/Discounted tickets here!) There is a new industry taking the cannabis community by storm, and it’s CannaFitness, also referred to as cannabis and athletics, or cannabis and sports. With so many professional athletes, and everyday gym goers, coming out of the green closet, it’s making it very clear to the public that cannabis consumers are not lazy. Having so many people stand up, to end the age old stereotype of cannabis making you lazy and stupid, people from all walks of life now have a distinguished flag to rally behind. That flag is the 420 Games, and they’re coming to Denver... Read More

Let’s Talk Topicals

June 17th, 2017

I beat myself up physically, by challenging myself in training so I can be stronger, faster, and better than the day before. Training isn’t just the work you put in at the gym, or on the track, it’s also a lot about recovery. I consume cannabis in many different ways, for different reasons, as detailed in last week’s article, Consuming Cannabis as an Athlete. This week we’re going to take a closer look at topicals, how they play a role in training and recovery, and what you can do to start using topicals into your everyday wellness routines. I have had the chance to experiment and try... Read More

Consuming Cannabis as an Athlete

June 10th, 2017

Before moving to Colorado, I only had access to smoking flower as a form of consumption, unless I wanted to attempt my own edibles. Now, I have the freedom to choose from all sorts of consumption methods, and I’ve had time to experiment with them all, in order to find out what works best for my body. As mentioned in Training with Cannabis, we all need to determine what works best for us, when fitting cannabis into our wellness routines. We talked last week about Pairing different Strains with different activities and goals. This week, we’ll dive into choosing the right method of cannabis consumption... Read More

Faces of Denver – Marisa Oldefest!

June 4th, 2017

Meet Marisa Oldefest, a Colorado native and former ballet dancer who 20 years ago experienced an auto accident that would forever change her path in life.  “In my early twenties I was in an auto accident where I got a pretty bad whiplash neck injury, so I put dance on hold and I was going through physical therapy and massage therapy—taking this pain pill, taking this muscle relaxer—almost a year and half of chronic pain and I wasn’t getting any better.  I couldn’t work and it was my massage therapist that found out I was a dancer and she was like “I really think you would... Read More

June 3rd, 2017

Sour Diesel. Blue Dream. Granddaddy Purple. OG Kush. Gorilla Glue. The list of strains available on the market is seemingly endless, and grows longer every day as growers cross breeds to create new ones. The selection of strains differs at each dispensary, but the problem remains the same, you still have to figure out which one to buy. With so many choices, this can be overwhelming, even for a veteran consumer like myself. That’s why we’re going to look at what strains we can pair with certain activities to get the most out of them. Whether you’re Training with Cannabis on your own, or taking... Read More

Strong to the Core

May 31st, 2017

Everyone who has worked out in a fitness center or Crossfit class, with a personal trainer or on your own, read an article or even talked with a gym rat – knows about the core. “Strengthen your core,”  “Work on your core,” “Feel it in your core.”  But what does it mean to say you are working your core? The core is usually used interchangeably with your abs, but the core is much more than just your abs. Think of your core muscles as the central link in a chain connecting your upper and lower body.  The muscle groups that make up your core include the rectus abdominis, erector spinae... Read More

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo- Animals, Giving Back, and Exercise

May 27th, 2017

All that training I did paid off last weekend. I completed my race in Colorado Springs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was a great experience. The course went through the zoo and up the mountain to William Rogers Shrine. Over the first two miles we climbed 1000 feet and it was incredible and challenging; but worth it for the views. The course was on a nice road that usually does not allow foot traffic. This is the only race that the zoo allows foot traffic to the shrine. Even though you will not be able to walk to the shrine this year you can still visit the zoo and take the gondola up to the... Read More

Spring Calls for A Change of Habit

March 15th, 2017

Even though spring in Colorado typically involves snow, it seems this spring will be warmer, earlier.  March is usually the snowiest month in Colorado and yet, here we are, halfway through the month with no snow.  As the longer, warmer days of spring unfold, you may still be feeling the heaviness of winter.  Since we spend more time indoors in the winter, coupled with less time moving and often more time eating, it is common to feel a little sluggish, sleepy, and possibly a few pounds heavier.  To energize yourself and prepare for the season ahead,  make some adjustments to your current routine.   Eat... Read More
