Personal Trainers Consume Cannabis

July 14th, 2018
NASM_National Academy of Sports Medicine

I am a sponsored trail runner and personal trainer and I incorporate cannabis in my daily training routine.  Specifically, I consume either flower, concentrates or edibles before hitting the gym, trails or yoga sessions.  I also apply topicals to achy joints, such as my knees and shoulders and consume hemp foods throughout the day. Cannabis is a powerful anti inflammatory, and when consumed before a training session, allows me to focus mentally. This helps me maintain longer training sessions. My husband, Antonio DeRose, also uses cannabis as a part of his daily health and fitness routine. We’ve... Read More

Ellementa: Global Cannabis Wellness Network for women

Last week I had the wonderful opportunity to be a speaker about Fitness and Cannabis on the panel at June’s Ellementa event. Ellementa is a Global Cannabis Wellness Network for women. They host monthly gatherings in 35+ cities, bringing together women with experts and brands. The group aims to release the stigma surrounding the plant, and hopes to empower women everywhere to ask questions, learn, and educate someone. On the panel alongside me was Olympian and World Champion Joanna Zeiger, PhD. Joanna is the Founder and Coach with Train Away Chronic Pain. They believe the combination of aerobic... Read More

Running for a Reason

Running for a reason_Ragnar Trail

In addition to our other 10 races we are running this year, my husband and I decided we wanted to build a team of 8 athletes to complete a Ragnar Trail relay. We had no idea it would be one of the best weekends ever! When I became the team captain, I was a little hesitant about coordinating a team. We needed an additional 6 runners to run a total of 14.4 miles each to total 114.4 miles and we wanted team members to be open to cannabis use and promotion. A couple other cannabis athletes we knew joined the team to support the cause. Marie Peel, co-founder of Denver’s luxury transportation service... Read More

Cannabis Miles for Charity

March 3rd, 2018

With 11 races scheduled this year, including an 8 person Ragnar Relay over 2 days, the MJFITNUT Team will be logging in some serious miles. Each one of those miles spent training and competing will be fueled by cannabis. Does this mean cannabis flower and concentrates, or edibles and topicals? All of the above. Does it also mean hemp seeds, hemp protein powders, and other hemp food products? You bet it does. These routines are that of a cannabis athlete, and the miles cannabis athletes put in could be called cannabis miles. MJFITNUT has committed to donate their cannabis miles to charity, and you... Read More

Tips For Training as a Couple

February 17th, 2018

I train with my wife on a regular basis. We run trails together, hit the gym together, and we take recovery days together. Training as a couple can help you both achieve your goals, and strengthen your relationship. She has pushed me to become faster, and run longer distances. Her encouragement and support have been critical to my improvement. Training as a couple has improved our relationship by opening more communication, and allowing us to learn even more about each other. Learning how to train and compete together has been a process. Here are a few tips I’ve learned to help you train as a... Read More

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo- Animals, Giving Back, and Exercise

May 27th, 2017

All that training I did paid off last weekend. I completed my race in Colorado Springs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was a great experience. The course went through the zoo and up the mountain to William Rogers Shrine. Over the first two miles we climbed 1000 feet and it was incredible and challenging; but worth it for the views. The course was on a nice road that usually does not allow foot traffic. This is the only race that the zoo allows foot traffic to the shrine. Even though you will not be able to walk to the shrine this year you can still visit the zoo and take the gondola up to the... Read More

The Days of The Lazy Stoner Are Over

May 13th, 2017

Welcome all, to the CannaFitness weekly column, where you will learn all you need to know about cannabis and fitness, and get an exclusive inside look into this exciting emerging industry. Being a sponsored cannabis athlete myself, I know how fast CannaFitness is moving through the world. Even though the concept of using cannabis in association with athletics and fitness may seem new to most, I know first hand they’ve had a close relationship for a very long time. Only recently, in the past decade especially, has this topic slowly gained public momentum as the taboo and stigma of cannabis use... Read More
