That Buzzing Sound

May 24th, 2017

Do you ever experience ringing, buzzing, hissing, whistling, swooshing, or clicking in your ears?  You might have tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control estimates that nearly 15% of the general public — over 50 million Americans — experience some form of tinnitus. There are two types of tinnitus: Subjective tinnitus is usually traceable to auditory and neurological reactions to hearing loss, but can also be caused by an array of other catalysts. More than 99% of all tinnitus reported tinnitus cases are... Read More

Faces of Denver – Bryon and Luna

May 24th, 2017

Bryon’s life changed radically a couple years ago when his wife received her dream job as an architect in Denver, bringing them west from Alabama. Bryon had always wanted to move to Colorado, so when the opportunity presented itself they couldn’t say no. He has since found his way into the coffee industry, working for a wholesaler, but what really drives Bryon is his love of the outdoors. As a skier, Bryon was quickly drawn to Arapahoe Basin, where he can get up on the slopes when he has a day off work. In addition to the great skiing, Bryon’s found that Denver is “the perfect combination... Read More

Stigma: The Smoke In Our Eyes

May 24th, 2017

“That is not a drug. It’s a leaf.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger Unfortunately, saying you actively or recreationally use drugs, regardless if it’s marijuana or heroin, still carries a stigma that is not attached to social drinking. Fortunately, though, the negative connotation related to pot use may be on its way out. The millennial generation, ages 20 to 36, now lives in a country where some form of recreational marijuana use is legal in nearly 25 percent of the nation. In fact, a Pew Research Center survey found that younger people were “more than twice as likely to support... Read More

Confessions of A Movie-Loving Budtender

May 23rd, 2017

The weather got a little nasty again this week. The lovely spring that we had been enjoying took a break so that winter could make one last appearance, hopefully. I got used to the early warm weather, and my days spent mountain biking, hiking, and gardening reverted back to sitting inside and watching it snow some more. I know Colorado gets odd weather but a two- foot storm in late May is lame. However, as the saying goes, “we have two seasons in Colorado, winter and July” am I right? So, if we must be indoors, why not spend that time being entertained and watching some good flicks? My first... Read More

New Sustainability Goals in Denver Includes Plans to Improve Quality of Life

May 23rd, 2017

With population growth, economic growth, and environmental changes, it is easy to wonder what Denver is doing in specific to improve the quality of life in the region. Luckily for locals, many aspects of life in Denver are being improved by Denver’s Office of Sustainability’s 2020 Sustainability Goals. The city’s relatively new plan to meet goals in sustainability by 2020, created in 2015, includes strategies that will improve the local quality of life through improving aspects of the local environment (Denver Office of Sustainability 2017). The people of Denver will be able to see... Read More

Surviving the Bolder Boulder

May 23rd, 2017

On Memorial Day last year over 50,000 runners blanketed the city of Boulder as they competed in the Bolder Boulder 10K. Elite runners from across the globe, top wheelchair competitors, and thousands of everyday citizens sweated through 6.2 miles as they attended one of the largest and most popular races in the country. While the race usually comes down to a sprint at the final stretch of Folsom Field, and hundreds struggle from the heat, cramping, injury, and altitude, most finish with a smile. The stories are usually written about Olympian athletes and their ability to overcome obstacles. Well,... Read More

Faces of Denver – Lauren Seip!

May 22nd, 2017

Meet Lauren Seip, one of the two owners of the eccentric and playful art store, Lowbrow. Lauren was not born in Denver, but considers Denver essentially her hometown after living here for 14 years. She originally is from Florida, but has moved around so much during her childhood that she has never really considered anywhere her home, until settling in Denver. Since Lowbrow is a beautifully aesthetic store with emphasis on art and design, it only makes sense that Lauren went to school for Media Art at The Art Institute of Colorado. Lowbrow is located at 38 Broadway in Denver, CO, and not a newcomer... Read More
