Beach, Please

May 28th, 2017

During the one hour, fifty-six-minute running time of Baywatch, a variation of a thought kept running through my head. This thought would burrow to the surface of my cerebral cortex every few minutes, and when it did, it would make me slump in my seat in disappointment. God, I wish I were watching 21 Jump Street. This movie is like 21 Jump Street, but dumber, lazier, and it hates trying hard. You know what I should do this Memorial Day weekend? Get a nice bottle of scotch and watch 21 Jump Street. Great idea, brain!  Made in 2012, 21 Jump Street absolutely shouldn’t work, but it does.... Read More

Faces of Denver – Kathryn Morin

May 27th, 2017

Kathryn is an artist from Anchorage, Alaska. She arrived in Denver yesterday and has already been amazed by the ever-changing weather for which Colorado is known. Kathryn was surprised by the size of Denver but has enjoyed the people, saying they seem “very outdoorsy,” which reminds her of home. While she’s just starting to get to know the city, Kathryn has been a bit overwhelmed with the driving here, as Denver’s road systems are significantly more complex than those of Anchorage. While Kathryn has no formal training in art, she has been practicing as long as she’s been walking. A teacher... Read More

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo- Animals, Giving Back, and Exercise

May 27th, 2017

All that training I did paid off last weekend. I completed my race in Colorado Springs at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. It was a great experience. The course went through the zoo and up the mountain to William Rogers Shrine. Over the first two miles we climbed 1000 feet and it was incredible and challenging; but worth it for the views. The course was on a nice road that usually does not allow foot traffic. This is the only race that the zoo allows foot traffic to the shrine. Even though you will not be able to walk to the shrine this year you can still visit the zoo and take the gondola up to the... Read More

Huff N Puff Fitness Classes in Denver

May 26th, 2017

What do you get when you combine the legalization of cannabis and Colorado’s fit lifestyle? The rise of cannabis fitness classes! You heard me right. Whether you live here now, or plan on visiting, you can sign up for fitness classes where you are allowed to consume on site, both pre and post training. As mentioned in last week’s article on Training with Cannabis, more and more athletes are coming out of the green closet. Everyone from professional athletes who train every day, to the average gym goer is starting to speak openly about their cannabis use, and how they benefit from incorporating... Read More

The Unofficial Start of Summer

May 26th, 2017

That’s right, folks it’s finally here: Memorial Day Weekend. Its summer, baby. Pools, the 88 Drive-In, camping, and backyard barbecue season is finally upon us. And what do all those activities need? You guessed it: beer. In preparation for your long holiday weekend, I’ve compiled a shortlist of beers to grab on the go. Liquor stores like Argonaut, Molly’s Spirits, Applejack, Lowry’s Liquor, and Small Batch Liquor are just a few of the local favorites spots that offer build-your-own six packs, in addition to having fine selections of six packs and cases of local (and other) craft beer.... Read More

Faces of Denver – Stephanie Vasilius!

May 25th, 2017

Meet Stephanie Vasilius, a Denver native and new business owner of the Taj Mutt Hal— a brand new local family-owned pet store located in the Highlands that pet owners are going to love shopping at and love bringing their pets for first-class grooming services.  After exploring life for four years in Hawaii and California, Stephanie returned to Denver to follow her dream of owning a pet store and with the love and support of her parents, Chuck and Kate Vasilius, her dream has come true.  “I’ve been an animal lover my whole life, we started this idea in Christmas of 2015, and at that... Read More
