Old Fashioned: The Drink, The Bar, The Time at Charlie Brown’s Bar

May 22nd, 2017
Charlie Brown's Bar Denver

There are hundreds of places to grab a drink and relax after a long work week around Denver, but none are quite as unique or charming as Charlie Brown’s Bar. Located at 980 Grant Street, this bar was built in 1928 and is attached to one of the most famous and historic hotels in Denver — the Colburn. Most importantly though, it is a place you can go to not only relax (and get a really good steak), but also feel the history of Denver come alive around you! All you have to do is walk in the doors and grab a seat in one of the plush leather and mahogany arm chairs, order an old fashioned and take... Read More

Here There Be Xenomorphs

May 21st, 2017

In the universe of Star Trek, humanity is an essential part of the vast mosaic of creation, and a pioneering spirit of discovery lives on. In the universe of Star Wars, there’s a common thread of adventure, a belief that swashbuckling and derring-do will help to seize the day. In the universe of Alien, humanity is not wanted or needed. We’re exploring a hostile void where the reward for discovery is death, and compassion will get you killed.* Morality and intention don’t matter, only brute survival. Overall, I’m a pretty positive guy, but there’s something deeply... Read More

Faces of Denver – The Armstrong Family

May 20th, 2017

The woman owned and family operated mobile pizza business, Simply Pizza Truck, is not only a great place to grab a bite to eat, but also a true piece of art! Kim, the owner and pizza chef, has developed the menu combining high-quality ingredients with old family recipes, and their wood-burning stove brings it all together. Kate, the name they gave the truck, started on the chassis of a 2002 International. Ty, co-pizza chef and Kim’s husband, “spent over 1500 hours” adding a 20’ transatlantic shipping container that he then transformed into a high-end pizza factory. The Armstrong’s have... Read More

Joint. Gym. Repeat. Training with Cannabis

May 20th, 2017

How do you incorporate cannabis into your training? For those interested in learning how to include cannabis into their fitness regimen as part of a balanced, overall health and wellness routine, this is one of the most common questions that gets asked. I’m always happy to share my habits and routines, but it’s nice to get a few different perspectives. Today we’re going to touch base on how I use cannabis as part of my training program, followed up by recent testimonial from retired professional athletes like Bas Rutten, Eben Britton, and Eugene Monroe when they appeared as the sports panel... Read More

Climbing the Chimney

May 20th, 2017

With warm weather on the rise (minus the recent snow storm), race season is kicking off. My first race of the season is on Saturday. This is a short run with a high intensity climb for the first two miles in Colorado Springs. Because of the incline my normal training routine was not going to work. So I researched trails close to me with an incline. I found what I was looking for in Golden, CO and my training trail quickly became Chimney Gulch Trail. Chimney Gulch Trail starts in Golden and climbs 2.5 miles up Lookout Mountain. During that 2.5 miles, be prepared to ascent 2000 ft.  The trail... Read More

Snow Day!

May 19th, 2017

So, it’s the end of May, not that your winter coat would know the difference. While the snow *might* finally be over for the season after this week, we are still guaranteed at least a few more chilly days before we can pack that coat in for a few a months. Such is the unpredictable nature of Colorado weather that keeps us on our toes. Thankfully, there are plenty of breweries to visit when the weather suddenly turns and you’re craving a warming brew in a cozy taproom. Goldspot Brewing on 50th and Lowell gives you just that. “Born in Berkley,” Goldspot... Read More
