Lakewood Arts: Up and Coming in 40 West

October 10th, 2017

Lakewood Arts had a very good show for the 40 West First Friday this past Friday. There was everything from classy mosaics to watercolors and acrylics to delightful textile designs. They had a folksy live band playing in the back and several gallery attendants to attend to our needs, one of them even came up and introduced herself and had a nice chat. I found the artwork impressive and alluring. The gallery did NOT seem snobbish or stuck up but was rather open and friendly, very welcoming to all who came in, which is just the way I like it! This was one of those great galleries where it seems like... Read More

I’ll Tell You About Teller Street Gallery

October 5th, 2017

Teller Street Art Gallery and Studios is on 38th Street in Wheat Ridge, CO, west of Denver. It’s a hidden gem! The place is down-to-earth and fun but also has some very talented and innovative art in the gallery. The great thing about Teller is that it is a very functional space. Gallery owner and artist Nicole Anderson and fellow artist Kaylie instruct art classes to the public for a reasonable price-they are what are known as the paint-and-sip art classes generally lasting no more than 3 hours, at the end of which the participant has a finished painting to take home with her at the end... Read More

Grace Gallery Will Take Your Breath Away

September 18th, 2017

Grace Gallery is three floors of unique and interesting art! Located in the Santa Fe art district near downtown Denver, Grace Gallery has three floors of amazing art ranging from wood carvings and abstracts to nudes and portraits. There is art and jewelry made from bicycle parts, stunning photography that draws you in and won’t let you go until you’ve surely gotten your fill and even then you find it hard to walk away. The main floor is definitely my favorite but that’s not to say the upper and lower floors are lacking, in fact it’s astounding the amount of amazing art that... Read More

Access Gallery: Art for the Heart

September 8th, 2017

You will find many choices when you want to visit an art gallery in Denver, in fact you may be overwhelmed not only with the variety of art galleries but the art districts! My first stop was the Access Gallery in the Santa Fe Arts District just south of downtown. I think Access Gallery stands out to me because it’s doing something very worthwhile with the art program for people that are often overlooked or even shunned. Access Gallery is unique, it is a nonprofit that has been in operation since the mid-seventies, all the work is done by adults with disabilities who are given an opportunity... Read More

Artist Spotlight – Rachel Fisher

September 7th, 2017

Rachel Fisher is an artist that specializes in metal fabrication and metalsmithing to create her complex, bizarre, and ultimately incredible sculptures and other jewelry pieces. Not only does she create sculptures, she also does a bit of everything including: painting, drawing, photography, and more. Originally from Greenwich, Connecticut, Fisher grew up creating art as second nature, having a grandmother who was also an artist. Fisher started as a painter, but would later move on to sculpture art as a main focus after being inspired by her college sculpting classes. Fisher moved... Read More

Faces of Denver – Kathryn Morin

May 27th, 2017

Kathryn is an artist from Anchorage, Alaska. She arrived in Denver yesterday and has already been amazed by the ever-changing weather for which Colorado is known. Kathryn was surprised by the size of Denver but has enjoyed the people, saying they seem “very outdoorsy,” which reminds her of home. While she’s just starting to get to know the city, Kathryn has been a bit overwhelmed with the driving here, as Denver’s road systems are significantly more complex than those of Anchorage. While Kathryn has no formal training in art, she has been practicing as long as she’s been walking. A teacher... Read More

Faces of Denver – Lauren Seip!

May 22nd, 2017

Meet Lauren Seip, one of the two owners of the eccentric and playful art store, Lowbrow. Lauren was not born in Denver, but considers Denver essentially her hometown after living here for 14 years. She originally is from Florida, but has moved around so much during her childhood that she has never really considered anywhere her home, until settling in Denver. Since Lowbrow is a beautifully aesthetic store with emphasis on art and design, it only makes sense that Lauren went to school for Media Art at The Art Institute of Colorado. Lowbrow is located at 38 Broadway in Denver, CO, and not a newcomer... Read More

Faces of Denver – Drew Storm Graham

May 17th, 2017

Drew is new to Denver, arriving just 2 months ago. Prior to that, he resided in Washington DC after spending his childhood all over the country as a military brat. Growing up, Drew always used sculptural wood art to express himself, leaving him with wood scraps lying around. One day, Drew noticed one of these pieces of scrap wood looked like a bowtie, sparking the idea to turn his scraps into wearable art. Drew realized this could be a way to turn his passion into a business, and dedicated himself to “bring something to men’s wear that is natural, reclaimed, and a conversation piece.” Drew... Read More

Faces of Denver – Michael Elaire!

May 14th, 2017

Michael Elaire is a videographer and photographer who enjoys creating street documentaries.  He moved to Denver from Santa Clarita, California but prior to that he had the pleasure of living in Germany for 8 years. “In Germany I fell in love with the four seasons and the Fall colors and I wanted to find a place that had that”.  While looking down 16th Street in Downtown Denver with his camera and tripod in hand he says, “I like storytelling, someone has a story and I give them an outlet to let it out.”  His latest project is on Denver’s homeless, “People are... Read More
