Elway QB Disasters – From Worse to Worst

October 25th, 2019

General Manager John Elway has tried everything to find an answer at the quarterback position, with laughable results. In honor of the man who wore number seven on his jersey, we count down the seven worst (and sadly, only) choices that Elway has made to fill the position since Peyton Manning retired. 7) Chad Kelly – It’s difficult to fault Elway for selecting Kelly with the last pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The nephew of legendary Buffalo Bills quarterback, Jim Kelly, Chad was a low-risk, high-reward selection that showed good arm strength, size, and athleticism that Elway was willing to develop.... Read More

We Can’t Fire John Elway – But Here’s Ten Things We Could Do

October 11th, 2019

With two Super Bowl rings as a starting quarterback for the Denver Broncos and one more as a General Manager, it seems that no one has the desire or the cajones to fire John Elway. It’s understandable. The man is a walking legend, a Hall-of-Famer, the face of the franchise, and the greatest quarterback in Bronco history.  The Drive.  The helicopter. This one’s for John! But let’s be honest.  Since winning the Super Bowl in 2015, our legend has been less than legendary.  Since that time, Denver has gone 21-32 with no playoff appearances, is off to a 1-4 start this season, and as currently... Read More

Bronco Nation – Why So Negative?

September 27th, 2019

The frustration is mounting in Bronco Country as Denver is off to its worst start in twenty years. Last Sunday’s 27-16 loss to the Green Bay Packers has the team winless after three games and losers of seven-in-a-row if you go back to last season. Admittedly, the team was not prepared in week one against the Silver and Black. Week two was more of a fluke loss as the Chicago Bears needed a bad call from a referee, a fourth-down conversion, and a 53-yard field goal—all in the last 30 seconds of play—to pull out the victory.  As for Green Bay, Denver has never won at Lambeau Field. So, instead... Read More

Denver Broncos – Bulletin Board Material

September 20th, 2019

After an 0-2 start, the last thing the Denver Broncos probably need is more ridicule and criticism.  Afterall, the defense has looked solid, Joe Flacco is throwing the ball well, and if it wasn’t for a bad roughing-the-quarterback call last Sunday, Denver would be just a game out of first.  But consider this early season bulletin board material—and a wakeup call—because if the losses continue to pile up, the press will continue to pile on.  Here are the early season victims. Phillip Lindsay – My nickname for Lindsay is Macarena.  After rushing for over 1,000 yards and making the Pro... Read More

Empower Field at Mile High? – 20 Better Suggestions

September 13th, 2019

Just recently, the Denver Broncos announced the new name for their football stadium.  From here on out, the stadium which was once deemed Sports Authority Field by many, and Mile High by most, will now be called Empower Field at Mile High, after a Financial Services company from Greenwood Village wrote a big check for the naming rights. Naming Rights for a stadium in Colorado isn’t as easy as people think.  What comes to mind when you think of Colorado?  What players or ownership deserve recognition?  Who will pay big money?  And what do the fans really want? I came up with twenty suggestions... Read More

Broncos vs Raiders: It Could Be All We Need to See

August 9th, 2019

After a 6-10 season, the Denver Broncos and John Elway knew they had to make some changes.  The team said goodbye to Case Keenum, the coaching staff, Bradley Roby, Matt Paradis, and others.  In came an entire new coaching staff, a high-priced secondary, and a Super Bowl winning quarterback in Joe Flacco.  The question is whether all the movement will lead to victories, or do the Broncos revert to the same team (with another new quarterback) that has gone 20-28 since winning the Super Bowl back in 2015?    Generally, one game does not a season make.  But in this case, with an opening-season... Read More

Broncos New Look – I’m Not Drinking the Kool-Aid

June 4th, 2019

As a fan I spent many seasons in the South Stands cheering on the Denver Broncos.  Donning a tattered Steve Atwater and holding a local microbrew, I bled orange and blue.  Through the good years with John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Von Miller.  And the bad of Josh McDaniels, Rahim Moore, and Paxton Lynch. Throughout it all, I trusted the Broncos. My cup was half full, filled with the positive expectations of seasons to come. But I don’t see it.  I would love to believe that the issues of the last few seasons were primarily coaching and quarterback play, but that seems too simple.  That our... Read More

Ten Big Reasons Why We Whiffed on Drew Lock

May 7th, 2019

Let’s start with two undeniable facts: the Broncos are in dire need of a quarterback for the future, and I personally have nothing against Drew Lock.  That being said,  John Elway’s selection of the Missouri quarterback in the second round, with the 42nd overall pick, was awful on so many levels.  Or ten levels to be more precise. NOT EVERY DRAFT IS A GREAT ONE FOR QBs – The only two quarterbacks taken in the first round back in 2007 were JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn. EJ Manual was the lone QB selected in 2013, and the headliners of the 2014 draft were Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel. ... Read More

The Draft Was Going Perfect – Until We Ran Out of Lock

April 30th, 2019

When the Oakland Raiders decided to take a lower-graded defensive end with the fourth overall pick and the New York Giants surprised everyone by taking quarterback Daniel Jones at number six, John Elway’s draft board couldn’t have looked any better. Sitting at number ten, Elway could have chosen Devin Bush, an inside linebacker from Michigan, selected a top offensive lineman, or had his choice of any quarterback he wanted, but he didn’t.  Instead, Elway wisely traded the pick to the Pittsburgh Steelers, deciding to acquire more picks and more value to fill some glaring needs. The Broncos... Read More

Story of the Week – An Avalanche of Ideas

April 23rd, 2019

The story became obvious as I sat down to write.  The Colorado Avalanche would eliminate the top-seeded Calgary flames in five games, and my fingers began to type.  Thoughts of Mikko Rantanen, Nathan MacKinnon, and Philipp Grubauer raced through my head.  Memories past were of Stanley Cups, Joe Sakic, Peter Forsberg, and Ray Bourque.  I would be sure to throw in Patrick Roy’s legendary playoff quote once said in response to an opponent’s trash talk. “I didn’t hear him because my two Stanley Cup rings were stuffed in my ears.” It was undoubtedly the story, the headline, the news of... Read More
