Rocky Mountain Puppet Slam

March 20th, 2018

I confess that I do not care for computer-generated special effects.  Sure, they’re spectacular to look at (see: ninety percent of the last Star Wars). The tremendous skill required and technical execution are impressive.  They’re so good that you couldn’t even tell that they were there if it weren’t for the implausibility of the final result (see: Angelina Jolie’s cheekbones in Maleficent.) They’re like GMO’s: ubiquitous and almost impossible to entirely avoid. I don’t dislike them because they’re bad, per se. I dislike them for the squishy reason that they’re almost always…... Read More

Denver’s Draft Pick – Fairly Obvious

March 20th, 2018

Now that John Elway has his quarterback, predicting who the Broncos will take with the fifth pick in the 2018 NFL draft is fairly obvious.   It may not be sexy, but Denver needs major help on their offensive line so look for Elway to select Quenton Nelson, a beast of a lineman out of Notre Dame.  You can pencil Nelson in as an immediate starter and a future pro-bowler for years to come. Actually, since we’re doing this in pencil…Case Keenum only signed a two-year deal for basically Brock Osweiler money, which means Elway doesn’t see him as the long-term solution, but more of a stop-gap... Read More

How to Celebrate World Poetry Day

March 18th, 2018

March 21st is World Poetry Day! According to the United Nations, who established this fantastic, necessary holiday in 1996, the celebration of World Poetry Day intends to, encourage a return to the oral tradition of poetry recitals, to promote the teaching of poetry, to restore a dialogue between poetry and the other arts such as theatre, dance, music and painting, and to support small publishers and create an attractive image of poetry in the media, so that the art of poetry will no longer be considered an outdated form of art, but one which enables society as a whole to... Read More

Young Indiana Croft

March 18th, 2018

Guys, I have some righteous science to lay on you. For some of you, this information will come as precisely no surprise whatsoever. For others, this will create feelings of anger, confusion, and a general feeling of chumpdom. I can’t help any of that, I can only report to you my findings based on literal seconds of research. You ready? Women like video games, too. I know! Here in the Brennan household, we’re mild gamers. While I occasionally enjoy wreaking vehicular havoc in Grand Theft Auto, my wife appreciates the more cerebral pleasures of Skyrim. My dear friend Gina and her husband Curtis... Read More

Self Care Sunday Series

March 17th, 2018

Self care may be the most important concept to overall health and wellness. Now the community in Boulder, CO has another opportunity to care for their body and mind, while incorporating cannabis, mindfulness, and activities that promote growth and self love. Once a month, You Canna Be Well is hosting Self Care Sundays at the Phil Lewis Art Gallery and Studio. Each class will have its own theme, or focus, and will encourage participants to practice self care. I had the pleasure of attending the very first of these Self Care Sundays, which was Defining Your Purpose for 2018. The goal of the event... Read More

Meow Wolf

March 17th, 2018

Denver is on the verge of an artistic breakthrough. We already have a vibrant art culture. You’ve undoubtedly seen the murals and sculptures downtown, been to some museums, strolled through the art district on sunny afternoons. Maybe you’ve even been to some wonderful studios in the area. These things are all fantastic. And soon we’ll have a new addition to our art scene. It’s time to start getting very excited, because the one and only Meow Wolf is coming to Denver. Here is everything we know so far. Meow Wolf is an art collective made up of hundreds of contributing artists. Their specialties... Read More

Daylight Savings Time Is Not Healthy!

March 15th, 2018

It is ironic that this week—the week when we are all sleep deprived due to the commencement of Daylight Savings Time – is National Sleep Awareness Week. This year’s theme “Begin with Sleep” highlights the importance of good sleep health for individuals to best achieve their personal, family, and professional goals. Daylight Savings Time has a number of health risks associated with it. In the days after the time change, the risk of heart attack, workplace injury and car accident is higher. Being tired can decrease productivity, concentration, and general well-being and our appetite regulation... Read More

CSU Hoops – Time’s Up

March 13th, 2018

The Colorado State University Men’s basketball program has a major problem.  Head coach Larry Eustachy and interim coach Steve Barnes were forced out for their treatment of players. The program finished with a record of 11-21 and their only internal candidate is a second-year assistant coach whose apex include three years as the head coach at Northwestern Kansas Technical College. To put it lightly, the Rams are in trouble. But what if I told you that the perfect coaching candidate is just a phone call away. A current NBA assistant coach for the San Antonio Spurs under Greg Popovich, a former... Read More

Professor Phelyx

March 13th, 2018

The time has come for me to confess to you, dear readers, that I have a massive, unrequited crush on someone. That someone is Professor Phelyx, mentalist, entertainer, artist, and professional gentleman. I met him a few years ago when I was a backstage newbie and terribly nervous about how unqualified I was. Phelyx took the time to make eye contact, give a genuine smile, ask how I was doing, and listen to the answer. To a shaky little kitten, that bit of humanity was a lifeline. I’ve been in his thrall ever since. All live theater is magical. Some of it really is magic. Professor Phelyx weaves... Read More
