Frozen Dead Guy Days

March 3rd, 2018

March is the snowiest month of the year for Colorado. It’s also the month of one of the quirkiest, weirdest festivals in the country: Frozen Dead Guy Days. Next weekend marks the 17th year for the festival, which, if you don’t know, is in honor of a frozen dead man stored in a Tuff Shed in Nederland. What? Bred Morstol was born and raised in Norway. After he died in 1989, his grandson Trygve Bauge took the body to the United States in hopes of cryogenically freezing it because…why not? March Events @ Denver’s BookBar

March 3rd, 2018

This is the idyllic spot for anybody who loves reading, eating and drinking, especially altogether. Imagine combining the frugal indulgence of happy hour with silent reading, literary trivia, a featured reading, or book club. You can do all of this (& more!) at BookBar. Personally, I’ve always had a soft spot for old bars. They acquire a unique sense of character that only gets better with age. El Chapultepec is about as old as Denver bars get. For nearly a century it has stood on the corner of 20th and Market, serving... Read More

Japan Will Soon Have A Drug To Combat The Flu

March 1st, 2018

Last week, the Wall Street Journal reported that Japanese officials approved the single-dose drug, known as Xofluza, for use in that country. In a clinical trial, Japanese and American patients who took the drug when they had the flu saw the virus wiped out, on average, in 24 hours.  The drug will be available in Japan in time for next year’s flu season, but not in the U.S. until 2019. Currently Tamiflu is used widely for shortening the duration of the flu virus in America.  Xofluza works differently by inhibiting an enzyme the flu virus needs to replicate. The drug can work in 24 hours because... Read More
