Six Degrees of Separation

January 22nd, 2019

When John Elway hired Vic Fangio as the Denver Broncos new head coach and Ed Donatell as the new defensive coordinator, it looked as if Elway had searched endlessly to turn the Bronco defense into our own version of the Monsters of the Midway. Adding Rich Scangarello as the offensive coordinator appeared to be the long-lost answer to the struggling offense as the former 49ers coach will most likely bring a new scheme and a new system to spark the team. A tireless search of numerous candidates, countless hours, countless interviews—the process must have been grueling and extensive. Not really.... Read More

Denver Broncos – What’s the Plan?

January 1st, 2019
sad bronco fan

The season is finally over.  To recap, the Broncos finished 6-10 with losses to the NY Jets, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Oakland Raiders, Case Keenum ranked 29th in quarterback rating, the entire coaching staff is job hunting, and John Elway needs a plan.  Here are five of them.   Rebuild in 2020 – The favorable choice, as the Broncos limp through the 2019 season with Case Keenum at quarterback, draft an Offensive Lineman, and wait for QBs like Justin Herbert (Oregon), Tua Tagovailoa (Alabama), Jake Fromme (Georgia), or Trevor Lawrence (Clemson) in the 2020 draft. The plan... Read More

Okay, Now You’re Fired

December 18th, 2018
Denver Broncos - Vance Joseph

There are certain faux-pas in the workplace that can often lead to sudden termination. inappropriate relations with the CEO’s daughter generally ends in a pink slip, turning in an expense receipt from Shotgun Willie’s is often frowned upon, and losing back-to-back games to the San Francisco 49ers and Cleveland Browns is another tragic mistake that will most likely lead to another short employment. Vance Joseph’s tenure as head coach of the Denver Broncos looks to be over. The Broncos hadn’t lost to Cleveland since 1990, but after losing to the Browns 17-16, at Mile High, Vance Joseph... Read More

The Rebuild We Never Saw Coming

November 13th, 2018
The Denver Broncos rebuild

The word rebuild is a rarity in the Denver Bronco vernacular.  With more Super Bowls than losing seasons, the rebuilding process is saved for teams like the New York Jets, Cleveland Browns, and San Francisco 49ers.  Teams that are rebuilding don’t go after top free agents, don’t draft Bradley Chubb over rookie quarterbacks, and they don’t have player contracts like Case Keenum, Emmanuel Sanders, or Von Miller.  John Elway doesn’t rebuild, he reloads.  A missed field goal here and a lucky break there, and Denver would be right in the thick of it, we rationalize.  Well, sorry Bronco... Read More

Hand Me My Orange Colored Glasses

October 23rd, 2018
Denver Broncos

Doubters may look at Denver’s 45-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals as a needed win over an awful team.  Rookie QB Josh Rosen threw two interceptions that went for scores, the Cardinals had five turnovers, and Arizona dropped to 1-6 in the standings. Sure, the Broncos three wins have come against teams that have a combined 5-14 record, but after a season full of frustration, here are six reasons to look at Denver’s first road win of the season with orange colored glasses. Von Miller – With just 1.5 sacks during Denver’s four-game losing streak, Miller called out Arizona and his own... Read More

Bronco Draft Gives Them a Chubb

May 1st, 2018

With all the speculation leading towards the Denver Broncos selecting a quarterback-of-the-future in this year’s NFL draft, gun-slinger John Elway failed to pull the trigger, but didn’t draw a blank.  After Cleveland continued its historic failure of drafting quarterbacks by selecting Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick, the Browns compounded their mistake by selecting Denzel Ward (CB/Florida State) providing the Broncos a gift of edge-rushing proportions. It’s possible that Elway had his eye on Mayfield or Sam Darnold (USC), but after both quarterbacks were taken off... Read More

Denver’s Draft Pick – Fairly Obvious

March 20th, 2018

Now that John Elway has his quarterback, predicting who the Broncos will take with the fifth pick in the 2018 NFL draft is fairly obvious.   It may not be sexy, but Denver needs major help on their offensive line so look for Elway to select Quenton Nelson, a beast of a lineman out of Notre Dame.  You can pencil Nelson in as an immediate starter and a future pro-bowler for years to come. Actually, since we’re doing this in pencil…Case Keenum only signed a two-year deal for basically Brock Osweiler money, which means Elway doesn’t see him as the long-term solution, but more of a stop-gap... Read More

Top Five is no Druckenmiller

February 20th, 2018

I can feel it.  Bronco Nation is a little nervous about John Elway’s ability to make the right pick at quarterback at this year’s draft.  We’re afraid his track record speaks for itself and we’re petrified that he’s going to make the wrong choice.  Well, don’t worry.  The fifth overall pick is no Jim Druckenmiller. The year was 1997 and the San Francisco 49ers were looking to replace aging hall-of-famer Steve Young and continue their historic QB lineage.  While most franchise quarterbacks tend to go in the upper-first- half of the NFL draft, the 49ers waited until the 26th pick... Read More

Brady vs. Foles – Why the Broncos Should Care

January 30th, 2018

As John Elway educates himself on Eagles potential free-agent quarterback Nick Foles next Sunday, he may want to take a refresher course in American History. History has taught us that you need a Hall of Fame quarterback to win the Super Bowl, and not just competent ones like Nick Foles, Case Keenum, or Kirk Cousins.  And when Tom Brady heads to the victory parade with his shiny new pair of Uggs, holding his 6th Lombardi Trophy, Elway may want to jot down some notes. There have been 51 Super Bowls and if we assume that Tom Brady,... Read More

Denver’s QB Blame Game – This One’s For John

October 31st, 2017

John Elway is a Hall-of-Fame legend, the face of the Denver Broncos, and the mastermind that lured Peyton Manning to Denver, eventually leading to a Championship four years later. As the Broncos struggle at 3-4 despite a Super Bowl caliber defense, most of the blame seems to be targeted on quarterback Trevor Siemian and Monday night’s three interception performance didn’t help. But if we are playing the blame game, this one’s for John. When John Elway rejoined the Denver Broncos back in 2011 as the Vice President of Operations a few things were obvious. Josh McDaniels had left a mess, Tim... Read More
