Introducing: The Copper Children

July 9th, 2019

The Copper Children is a folk band from Denver that specializes in trippy music and videos, blending what they call “psychedelic rock into a moving performance.” The Copper Children formed in 2015 and released their first album What We Are, in 2016. Their upcoming album, Speaking in Spirits, will also be released soon. The Copper Children have made a shift in their sound with the newest album, and the band was pleased to hear that their Denver fanbase would be sticking by them, the same way that the band has stuck together over the years. In an interview with Westword, the band stated: It’s... Read More

Healthy Living: Boost Your Brain with Lion’s Mane

July 8th, 2019

Brain fog: it’s a thing. Especially during a busy workweek, where too many to-do items have a tendency to sneak up on you. Maybe you’ve been staring at the computer screen for far too long and are starting to get that glazed-over feeling of your mind going numb. We all go through it, especially me, and during the times when my morning cup of coffee simply isn’t cutting it, more often than not I rely on something else. Something much stronger in potency, yet healthier, to dust out the mental clutter and enhance my concentration on tasks ahead. That something is lion’s mane mushroom. It wouldn’t... Read More

Does Whatever A Sequel Can

July 7th, 2019

This review will thoroughly spoil Avengers: Endgame. Proceed at your own risk.  Stan Lee used to talk about “the illusion of change.” It was a concept they used at Marvel Comics, and I imagine it’s still in use today. If you’re a comic book writer for one of the major publishers, you have a very fine line to walk. You need to make it seem as if the life of your character is changing, but have them remain essentially the same. For example, Peter Parker starts off as a geeky high school kid. He has trouble dating. He never has quite enough money to do much of anything. While big-time superheroes... Read More

5 Fast Ways to Add Hemp to Your Diet

July 6th, 2019

There are several health benefits from adding hemp to your diet. Hemp seeds and protein powders are easy to digest and are high in fiber, protein, omega 3 fatty acids, and other micronutrients like magnesium. Fiber helps us clear the digestive tract, which encourages proper absorption of nutrients. Protein is an essential macronutrient our bodies use to build muscle, bones, organs and other tissues. Omega 3 fatty acids promote brain health and have been shown to prevent coronary heart disease. Magnesium is needed for hundreds of biochemical reactions in the human body. All of these beneficial micro... Read More

Bear Breaks into Car, Butt-Shifts Vehicle and Drives Downhill in Boulder County

July 6th, 2019

By: Óscar Contreras BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. – A “delinquent bear” had a bit of fun in Boulder County this 4th of July, and it didn’t involve fireworks. The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said a bear pulled open an unlocked driver’s doors and climbed in. Unfortunately for the bear – not to mention the owner of the car – the door closed behind the animal. The bear then worked on digging through all four doors, “but apparently butt-shifted the car into neutral.” The car then rolled back and off the driveway about 100 feet down the hill, and the bear ended... Read More

“Medical Cannabis: Health Effects of THC and CBD” at CU Boulder

July 6th, 2019

CU Boulder’s CHANGE Lab has been working over the past several years to finally observe the potential benefits and risks to marijuana consumption, something that has previously been studied very little. Kent Hutchison, a psychology professor and cannabis researcher in CU Boulder’s CHANGE Lab, became frustrated with how little was known about the effects of marijuana when his elderly mother attempted to use marijuana to ease her chronic pain and consistently was given conflicting advice depending on what dispensary she went to. The same thing also occurred when Hutchison’s wife tried to... Read More

Disrupt Festival at Fiddler’s Green

July 6th, 2019

It’s summertime, and festival season is here at last. With Warped Tour doing minimal dates in faraway places, there’s a vacuum in the Denver concert scene. Enter Disrupt Festival, the newest musical venture from Rockstar. Disrupt is bringing the rock bands you’ve loved since high school to 25 cities across North America and promising to fill the void Warped Tour left in our lives. The festival will be held on July 17th at Fiddler’s Green, which is, objectively, much nicer than the parking lot at the Pepsi Center. Music starts at 1:30 with a local band yet to be announced.... Read More

ALEO

July 5th, 2019

ALEO is a painter and muralist based in Denver. He likes to paint his large scale murals freehand, using spray paint instead of brushes. Since 2013 ALEO’s work has been featured in numerous exhibitions throughout Colorado, California, Washington, and New Mexico. Keep an eye out for his upcoming shows at Threyda and Mirus this summer. “I enjoy creating visual diagrams with abstract forms,” says Aleo. “By mixing training with intuition, I can create that which could not exist along with that which appears to be from this world. Painting is the ebb and flow of form. Pushing... Read More

Raliberto’s Mexican

July 4th, 2019

There’s something appealing about late nights, a liminal space between being who we *should* be at work and who we *would* be if we didn’t have to work. Even when you do “real” work late at night, there’s an odd feeling of suspension from reality. You’re out prowling your way home, cold sober and still in your work uniform, while everyone else sleeps or applies more eyeliner in the bathroom of dive bar that’s never going to be as dive-y as your reality when you lock your car doors when waiting for a traffic light under a bridge in tiny hours of the morning. Aside from working late-night... Read More
