Riley Cote

Hockey is known to be an intense sport. As a league, they’re known for fights and hard hits on the ice. These hard hits have caused several former and current professional hockey players to turn to cannabis for its medicinal benefits as a pain reliever, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotectant. Today we’ve rounded up 10 hockey players who support cannabis, starting with the 2018 Cannabis Business Awards Activist of the Year, Riley Cote. 1. Riley Cote Cote is a very outspoken advocate for cannabis. He played in the National Hockey League for four seasons as an enforcer for the Philadelphia Flyers.... Read More

Hiking in Evergreen

February 3rd, 2018

Recently, I wrote about hiking in Conifer as an alternative to more popular locations like Boulder and Golden. Another quiet spot that’s easy to get to is Evergreen. It’s a bit bigger than Conifer and offers a wide range of activities. For hikers, there are plenty of options in Evergreen, including Elk Meadow Park and Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. Each has over 14 miles of pet and bike friendly trails that are easy to moderate. Elk Meadow features wide open spaces and—you guessed it—plenty of elk. For something less strenuous, take Painter’s Pause to Noble Meadow (2 miles one way). For... Read More

Avalanche Update – Exceeding Expectation

November 28th, 2017

It feels like just yesterday we were starting the 2017-2018 NHL season. The question marks for the avalanche were seemingly endless. Would this team bounce back from a horrible year? Should we even expect them to win that many games? Surely they will be in the running for this years 1st overall pick at the draft for the highly touted Swedish defenseman Rasmus Dahlin. We are now officially at the end of November and have passed the 20 game mark. A mark that, statistically speaking, says what you have in your team. Well folks, the Avs are currently 11-9- 2, two games above .500. The season is still... Read More

Avalanche Update – Matt Duchene Traded

November 5th, 2017

It’s over. Matt Duchene has been traded to the Ottawa Senators in a three way deal with Kyle Turris of the Senators going to Nashville, while the Avalanche receive a bundle of picks and prospects from each team.   Duchene was pulled from the ice in the first period after completing two shifts to be informed of the trade and was immediately sent to the locker room to get his things and catch a flight…. To Sweden… for the Global Series… Where his first two games as an Ottawa Senator will be against his old team. The Colorado Avalanche. Here is the breakdown: Avs receive Ottawa’s... Read More

Avalanche Update – Growing Pains

October 24th, 2017

The Avalanche had a quick start out of the gate with an impressive road record and home game that got many fans excited for the season. Now we are looking at a 4-4 record and currently on a three game losing streak. So what happened? Many things happened. For one, the Avs got thoroughly demolished by the Dallas Stars 3-1 in Dallas, and then went on to basically have the exact same game against the Nashville Predators with another ugly loss, losing 4-1. Then we had ourselves a controversy back home at Pepsi Center against the St. Louis Blues when a Mikko Rantanen game-tying goal late in the third... Read More

Avalanche Update – Hot Start

October 14th, 2017

Its just five games… Its just five games.. No matter how much you repeat it, something still feels different about this team. Through five games, your Colorado Avalanche are 4-1.   The Avs first game of the season took place in New York against a highly skilled New York Rangers club featuring “The King” Henrik Lundvist in between the pipes. The Avs were ready to sack the king’s castle however after they got off to a hot start. And who would be the first goal scorer of the new Avalanche season? Yep, you guessed it. Matt Duchene. After an offseason fueled by trade... Read More

The Matt Duchene Trade Saga

October 4th, 2017

Many who witnessed the nightmare of last season assumed many changes would take place within the Avalanche organization. Among those, a franchise changing trade was surely incoming. Or so we thought. Matt Duchene has been the main story not just here in Colorado, but among the entire NHL as his name has surfaced and been on the trade block for the entire offseason. A surprise to many, as Duchene has been the face of the team since his draft year in 2009. Not just that, but Duchene has been an Avalanche fan his whole life, since the glory years of Patrick Roy and Joe Sakic when he was just... Read More

Avalanche Season Preview

September 28th, 2017

A new season is upon us, and for Avalanche fans everywhere, many question whether or not they should even tune in. One cannot blame them after witnessing the disastrous 48-point season of last year. Not only was it the worst year the franchise has had in its existence since 1996, but also a historically bad season in the modern NHL era.   I am here today however to tell you exactly why you need to keep the faith and support the team this season.   Young talent. Yea yea yea, we’ve been hearing that for years. With the likes of Duchene, Landeskog, and Mackinnon that has... Read More
