Colorado Rockies–It’s Not Over

August 2nd, 2019

It’s barely August.  There are more than fifty games left in the regular season, and Colorado Rockies fans have seemed to have given up.  Where is your faith?  Where is your belief?  Colorado has tasted the playoffs two years in-a-row and you sit there like the season is already over. Yes, the Rockies are nine games under .500, more than 20 games behind the Dodgers, and sit in last place in the NL West, but that doesn’t mean it’s over. Just because the Rockies won only 6 out of 24 games in July and gave up 100 runs over a ten-game-stretch from July 13th to July 23rd doesn’t mean it’s... Read More

Rock Solid – 8 Reasons Why Colorado is Playoff Bound

October 2nd, 2018
Rocktober

What a difference a week makes.  Well, ten games to be exact.  After getting swept by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Colorado Rockies were sitting at 82-70 and 2 ½ games out of first place.  Trevor Story had injured his arm, Nolan Arenado was in a major slump, the Rockies were fading from playoff contention, and I was writing their obituary. But the Rockies ended up winning nine out of their last ten games in what could only be described as the perfect storm, and for the first time in Rockies history, Colorado has made the playoffs in back-to-back seasons.  I tried to find the one single catalyst... Read More

The Nuggets Catch a Break

February 6th, 2018

Last Thursday, the Denver Nuggets may have caught a break against Oklahoma City when officials missed a traveling violation on an out-of-bounds play, leading directly to a Gary Harris game-winning shot at the buzzer.  The dramatic win and solid first-half-of-the-season play has the Nuggets sitting at 27-25 and positioned in the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference.  Failing to call traveling in this league is hardly newsworthy, but as the Nuggets fight for a playoff birth against teams like the Jazz, Pelicans, and Clippers, the breaks just keep on coming.   It’s hard... Read More

Colorado Rockies – Playing with House Money

October 3rd, 2017

As the Colorado Rockies prepared for last Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers, all eyes were on the clubhouse television. The screen showed the Milwaukee Brewers with a comfortable 6-0 lead over the St. Louis Cardinals, which would most likely mean that the Rockies would have to win one more game to clinch their first playoff appearance since 2009. Clayton Kershaw was scheduled to pitch for the Dodgers, and the odds were not looking good. But in an improbable season came an improbable ending as the St. Louis Cardinals rallied to score three runs in the eighth to defeat the... Read More

Rockies Clinch Playoff Spot!

September 19th, 2017

Colorado fans may think it’s a little early to post a headline like this with the Rockies just two games in front of the Milwaukee Brewers in the fight for the final playoff spot. Call it irresponsible journalism, or sensationalism to attract readers, but with twelve games to decide the wildcard, here are six reasons that fans can stop chewing their nails, and start popping champagne. 1) While it doesn’t look great that the Rockies end the season with six games on the road and three at home against the first-place Los Angeles Dodgers, the schedule does include the San Francisco Giants, San... Read More

The Return of Brock Osweiler

September 12th, 2017

It seemed like a fairy tale. Draft the young 6’7, 240 lbs. quarterback with immense potential and a rocket arm, and let him sit on the bench and learn the position from a living legend until his moment arrives. When John Elway chose Brock Osweiler in the second round of the 2012 draft to be Peyton Manning’s heir apparent, chapter one had begun. Osweiler practically showed up on his white horse three years later as he gallantly stepped in for an injured and aging Manning, won some crucial starts, and prepared for his first playoff game. That is where the fairy tale turned into a Greek tragedy,... Read More

Five Moves to Make Before the Trade Deadline

July 25th, 2017

The Colorado Rockies don’t seem overly concerned about the July 31st trade deadline, and with a record of 58-43 and a comfortable position for the wildcard spot, playing .500 ball the rest of the way should be enough to secure their first playoff appearance since 2009. With such a young team, and bright future, it’s understandable that the Rockies will employ baseball’s version of the prevent defense and take their chances with their current roster. But as they say, prevent defense often prevents you from winning. Here are five moves that the Rockies should make before the week is over. 1)... Read More
