September 14th, 2018
Something Brewery

After checking out the Brighton Chile Festival this past scorching hot weekend, a cold beer was more than necessary. There’s definitely something special going on at Something Brewery in Brighton. Some Brief History and Atmosphere: The story behind the name can be found in their attempt to foster an inquisitive atmosphere for beer enthusiasts. They found that many of their guests would request, “something light, something dark, or something hoppy.” Boy they sure take that adventurous way of thinking to heart. In fact, emblazoned on the walls is a large mural stating “Something…” followed... Read More

Velorama

July 28th, 2018
Velorama

Velorama is returning to Blake Street August 17th-19th. This will be the festival’s second time here, and it’s picking up momentum. This is a mix of music, art, craft beers, delicious food, and of course bikes, to create a smorgasbord of good times. Velorama began with the idea to expand the Colorado Classic, a bike race, into a bigger event. Music and food were the logical next step. Now we have a three-day festival with tons of awesome events. In addition to the music, there are eleven different breweries participating, and of course, a food truck for every appetite. On Sunday, the last leg... Read More

Joyride Brewing and a Little Sip of History

December 8th, 2017

On a busy corner of Sheridan Blvd with views of Sloan’s Lake lives a neat little brewery rooted in some interesting history. This side of Sheridan is technically the city of Edgewater; a bright-lighted arch welcomes you to this quaint sandwiched suburb, a literal stone’s throw from Denver proper across the street. In recent months, developers have sought to build up the Sloan’s Lake area into another hot Denver neighborhood, with the ever-popular Highlands and Lo-Hi areas bordering all the other sides of the lake. The businesses of Edgewater only serve to benefit from this potential... Read More

New Image Brewing: Beer With a Purpose

November 17th, 2017

New Image Brewing has caught my eye for a while now, with nothing more than their sleek, classy branding on well distributed cans throughout local shops around the greater Denver area. Their product is always a solid choice, and bringing a six pack of New Image beer to a get together as my kind contribution has been a choice I’ve made more than once, the beer itself never disappointing. Which is why I was pleasantly surprised to learn after my first visit to their taproom in Olde Town Arvada recently, that their passion and purpose expands beyond the borders of a craft beer and just another... Read More

Vine Street Pub and Brewery Continues to Impress

November 3rd, 2017

Twenty-four years ago, in October of 1993, before any of us tasted beer beyond the Coors-breath kisses of our dad’s, Mountain Sun Brewery opened its doors in Boulder, Colorado. Another location–Southern Sun–opened nearly a decade later in South Boulder, and then, even later, in 2008, Vine Street Pub opened its doors in Denver, near City Park. Representing uptown, Vine Street is one of the originals: it has certainly stood the test of time through our city’s great craft beer boom, and persevered through a tumbling economy, before a brewery popped up at any and every corner... Read More

Fall Festivities in Lafayette: Liquid Mechanics

October 20th, 2017

We have less than two weeks until Halloween: has everyone taken their annual trip to the pumpkin patch yet? If not, have no fear; there are plenty of places in and around Denver that are great for picking pumpkins, either for your kids or for the kid inside you that still carves a bitchin jack-o-lantern every October. And even better to note, the suburbs and small towns that surround Denver have been spontaneously poppin’ out plenty of good beer to satiate your needs when you venture out of the city. This year, we adventured at the very popular Anderson Farms in Erie for our pumpkin picking and... Read More

GABF 2017

October 13th, 2017

I hope everyone enjoyed GABF week and all the activities, tap-takeovers and special events that led up to the Fest, even if you did not get a chance to attend an official tasting! This year was jam-packed, with an estimated 60,000 plus attending over the weekend, flying in from all over the country. It always seems to take about a full week to recover, swear off beer for the rest of the year, and then gradually come back to the senses by the following weekend, beer in hand. With 800 breweries and over 7,000 beers entered, this was GABF’s biggest event yet. This year, the greater Denver area... Read More
