August 16th, 2019

They stand, side by side, towering 300 feet over practitioners below. The iconic red sandstone walls ricocheting sound from the front of the stage where the DJ is playing, as more than 2,000 people raise their hands above their heads before bowing to fold forward. With the early morning sun rising, slowly warming the amphitheater, students eagerly follow commands from the instructor—the conductor of the experience. “Inhale to upward dog, exhale to downward dog. Step to the front of the mat. Inhale to halfway lift, exhale to fold. Repeat.” It’s a steady mixture of sweat, breathing, and movement.... Read More

Vince Carter – How Old is Old?

August 16th, 2019

The 2019-20 NBA Schedule was just released, and the calendar is full of exciting games and stars visiting the Pepsi Center this season. The Lakers with Lebron and AD, the Clippers with Kawhi and Paul George, Zion is coming, as are Harden and Westbrook.  But I want you to circle November 19th as a game you may want to attend. The Atlanta Hawks are coming to town. Now, before you stop laughing, it’s true that Atlanta was only 29-53 last season, they’re not a playoff team, and while Trae Young is fun to watch, it’s hardly worth dealing with rush hour traffic for.  But a few weeks ago, Vince... Read More

Denver Magic Show

August 15th, 2019

Denver Magic Show —————– By Jessie Hanson   Mondays in my world need a lot of help. Case in point: I was supposed to turn in this column on Monday, but it’s now Tuesday and here we are, still pecking away at this keyboard. Let it be known that I don’t do mornings or Mondays. Thus, when I heard that the first day of the workweek would be endowing with a magical evening every week, I trotted my caffeinated bones out to Capitol Hill to see what was going on.  Parking is a bitch in Cap Hill; a magician will never tell you the secret of her tricks, but I’ll... Read More

Bear Breaks into House, Kool-Aid Man Crashes Through Wall

August 13th, 2019

A bear made its way into a home in Estes Park on Friday, then was spooked while in the house. Police said that the bear “forcibly breached a hole in the wall like the ‘Kool-Aid Man’ and made [its] escape.” This is not the first bear break-in in Estes this year, with 35 bears breaking into vehicles. Wildlife officials say that there was not food in the vehicles, but the bears are used to there being food in cars, so they check just in case. It is likely that the bear burglar in question broke into the house in the search of food as well. The police said in a statement on... Read More

Watch the Rolling Stones Play “Like a Rolling Stone”

August 12th, 2019

The Stones had an excellent performance in Denver on Saturday, playing at Mile High with the same gusto they mustered in 1965 as a much younger band the last time they played in Colorado. The band also visited some local Denver favorites, including Casa Bonita (which Mick Jagger claims gave the band food poisoning), Williams & Graham, a speakeasy in LoHi, and Lo Stella Ristorante, an Italian restaurant, where Mick Jagger gave the owner a guitar pick. Watch the band play “Like a Rolling Stone” in the fan video below.      Read More

A Good Lie

August 11th, 2019

One of the most prominent sections of the American Cancer Society’s website is the Treatment and Support page. There, you’ll find a host of useful information regarding the feelings both patients and caregivers experience during and after treatment. Understandably, fear, depression, and anxiety are all cited as normal responses. What is a “normal” response to a cancer diagnosis in a loved one? To make things even trickier, what if the diagnosis is terminal? That’s a tough one. If you’re the patient, how are you supposed to come to terms with your mortality, say your good-byes, and face... Read More
