4 Important Tune-Ups for Denver Winter Bike Commuters

December 29th, 2019

For the dedicated rider, bike commuting is a year-round affair. Sure, there are plenty of fair-weather commuters who hang up their bikes as soon as it starts to rain, but for those really committed to riding their bikes to work, there is no offseason. Instead, Denver’s winter bike commuters must re-asses and prepare for less clement weather. It’s a good idea to get some bike tuning done each spring and fall regardless of your riding habits to ensure your bike is running smoothly. Road bike tuning every fall might seem unnecessary; after all, if the bike is running fine, why pay to mess with... Read More

Pressure Drop

December 29th, 2019

As many of us do, the arrival of the year’s end is a time for me to look back. If I were to sum it up, 2019 was all about surprise. Putting aside the absolute insanity of our politics, the year in film has been wild as hell. We saw both the Star Wars and MCU franchises come to a temporary end. We saw films about cathartic cults, flicks involving doppelgangers, and a number of movies examining class warfare. Perhaps strangest of all, we saw one of the best performances of the year delivered by Adam Sandler. Maybe it’s not so strange, though! I’ll grant you that a cursory look through Sandler’s... Read More

Drew Lock: Is He Great, or Just Okay?

December 28th, 2019

I have the same argument with my buddies every Sunday when it comes to the NFL and assessing the recipe for success: I believe you need a borderline Hall of Fame type quarterback to win it all in today’s game, and anything less is simply a path towards mediocracy. But what does that have to do with Drew Lock and the Denver Broncos? I argue time and again that thirteen of the last fifteen Super Bowls were won by Hall of Fame members, or soon-to-be member quarterbacks, but they insist on bringing up the two outliers in Nick Foles and Joe Flacco. I reiterate the fact that twenty-three of the last... Read More

The Force Ricochets

December 22nd, 2019

In the beginning, there was the Word…or a bunch of words, anyway. They began with, “It is a period of civil war. Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire.” Once seen, it was impossible to forget. Film historians will tell you the first blockbuster was Steven Spielberg’s Jaws in 1975. That’s true, but there’s a galaxy’s worth of difference between a blockbuster and a frickin’ phenomenon. On May 25, 1977, Star Wars changed everything. The brainchild of George Lucas erupted from theaters and soon laid claim to... Read More

Cal Duran

December 21st, 2019

Have you ever had a dream that felt as if it were real? Do you feel the earth guide you to something that feels right? Have you felt a portal of some distant reality existing alongside of us? Art has been a portal to channel my indigenous ancestors, where I slip under an emotional spinning vortex of creation. The makers of my blood flow through me. I channel the artisans, craft-makers, mud-dwellers, star-makers, dream-weavers and earth, brothers and sisters, the ones who paved the way and forged the path. My work carries spirit and my truth is in everything I create. I grew up in Colorado,... Read More

The Broncos Organization – Who Are They?

December 20th, 2019

Historically speaking, it was always easy to look at the Denver Broncos and describe who they were as an organization. As the perennial Super Bowl contenders, they had Hall-of-Fame quarterbacks, tenacious defenses, veteran leadership, and great minds and stability in coaching and the front office. A successful franchise that embraced its blue-collared fans, and in return, the people bled orange in support of their team. That label and those attributes are now saved for others more deserving. The New Orleans Saints with Drew Brees, Sean Payton, and that Mardi Gras that occurs on Sundays. The Green... Read More

A Death Without a Body

December 16th, 2019

If you’re currently married or you were ever married, I’ve got news for you: your marriage is insane. I hate to be the one to tell you, but there it is. People you know, people you love, will take stock of your relationship and life choices and say, “They’re cuckoo banana-pants. No doubt about it.” Luckily, you aren’t alone. Everybody’s marriage is insane—yes, including mine. From the outside, they’re nearly impossible to understand. From the inside? Well, it ain’t much easier. Some days you can feel an almost religious degree of closeness to your partner, while during others... Read More

Turkuaz New Year’s Run

December 14th, 2019

If you’re one of those bah-humbug people around this time of the year, I get it. Thanksgiving was just a few weeks ago, and it’s already time for another big family gathering. Hopefully everyone has gotten over your brother’s latest girlfriend giving your grandma a piece of her mind about throat tattoos. Now, you can look forward to respectfully nodding through your uncle’s life advice while strategically avoiding the eggnog sloshing out of his coffee cup since you only own three nice shirts. Just me? If you’re feeling a little Grinchy, I have the perfect remedy: an... Read More
