CU Buffs – Keeping Their Resolutions
For most of us, this is the time of year that our New Year’s resolutions tend to fall apart. With the Colorado Buffaloes 68-59 victory over UCLA last Saturday night, it’s apparent that Tad Boyle and the Buffs have much greater self-control. George King scored 26 points, grabbed 10 boards, and the Buffaloes shot a red-hot 11 of 22 from three-point range for their first win ever at Pauley Pavilion. The victory over the first place Bruins was their third win in four games in what has been a remarkable start to the new year. With a Jan. 4th overtime win against 4th ranked Arizona State,... An Essential Institution
More than most countries, America runs on narrative. We call ourselves a shining city on a hill, lay claim to exceptionalism.* We brand ourselves as a nation of self-starters, rugged individualists, a place where a person from humble beginnings can rise all the way to the top through nothing more than determination and grit. Is it all true? Obviously, it’s better if it is true, but we have an almost singularly unique talent for lying to ourselves. We talk about our love of freedom, then take steps to disenfranchise people of color. We believe that anyone can become a success, then defend policies... Read More
CannaFitness: CBD Benefits
Athletes train and fuel their bodies to operate at optimal levels in their sport. CBD is the non psychoactive compound found in cannabis. It is a non toxic, natural option that provides multiple mental and physical benefits. The recent announcement by the WADA (World Anti Doping Agency) to remove CBD from the banned substance list in 2018 provides a safer option to many athletes. With athletes and individuals allowed to consume CBD legally in all 50 states, it is diminishing the stigma surrounding cannabis and its users. It has the potential to provide a better quality of life when provided as... Read More
Beyond the Pale: Trve Brewing
In a world of basic, Trve Brewing stands out. There’s a secret trick, it seems, when it comes to being different, but not coming off as trying too hard. And that trick is being genuine: something Trve nails. From their own words, Trve “represents being part of a counter culture without immersing yourself to the point of taking it too seriously.” As a result, Trve is not your biker aunt’s heavy metal bar; it’s also not an elaborate gimmick spinoff of some concept engineer from Hard Rock Café. It’s a heavy metal brewery that embraces chaos, but it’s the real deal. From the ornate... Read More
Why Happiness Is Important to Well-being
Topophilia is a strong emotional pull to a special place. Research says that people experience intense feelings of well-being, contentment, and belonging from places that evoke positive memories far more than treasured objects such as photographs or wedding rings. Why is contentment important to our well-being? Happiness is about being able to make the most of the good times – but also to cope effectively with the inevitable bad times, in order to experience the best possible overall life. Happiness actually leads to a wide range of benefits for our performance, health, relationships, and... Read More

How to Deal with Stress this Semester
Stress is one of the most difficult obstacles to maneuver throughout adulthood, and college life is often the first head-on lesson in managing it. Unfortunately, most of us struggle unremittingly with stress before learning how to cope. In fact, according to the 2015 National College Health Assessment, although only 30% of students report that stress negatively affected their year, an entire 85% reported feeling completely overwhelmed at least once by everything on their plate during the school year. It’s tiresome to keep your head above water with the constant onslaught of academic workload,... Read More
