Postcard Foods

July 8th, 2020

My New Year’s Resolution for 2019 was “Stick to a Meal-Planning Regimen.” If you Google this idea, you get all the kitchen-blogger schtick about how preparing meals in advance saves you time and money, helps you lose weight, yadda yadda yadda. These things are both completely true and exceptionally boring. I wasn’t trying to save time or lose weight. I was going through a deeply difficult period and I was struggling to do things as basic as feed myself. I would make meals ahead of time and then I would require myself to actually sit down to eat them and say the out loud the words, “Someone... Read More

Just like your car or your bike, your snow gear could use a little bit of a tune up from time to time. Sure, it’s easy to just ride your skis or snowboard every day all winter with little regard to how they’re holding up, but just a little bit of attention and tuning goes a long way towards keeping your gear performing well. With the weather finally cooling down a bit, ski resorts are looking to start the new season. “We could go any night,” said Alan Henceroth, chief operating officer at Arapahoe Basin. “We could go on an hour’s notice. Arapahoe Basin: Mid-October Loveland: Mid-October Keystone: October TBD Wolf Creek: Nov. 1 Breckenridge: Nov. 8 Copper Mountain: Nov. 8 Winter Park: Nov. 14 Vail:... Read More

The Courage to Question

February 20th, 2019

I have a confession. I haven’t been completely honest with you lately. I spent my last blog explicating a story about some guy in camo pants that would, quite literally, run into me in the singles line of my favorite chairlift. A guy that would inevitably save me from the digital dead zone of online dating. A guy who, at first take, would appear to be completely random, until we’d both divulge the calculated decisions we had made to get us into that same lift line on that same mountain on that very same day, and none of it would seem so random after all. As much I want to chalk this up to fantasy... Read More

Please Swipe Responsibly

January 24th, 2019

If you think dating is hard, try dating in a ski town. Population 4,896. The tourist game is so strong in Breckenridge that I can confidently proclaim that I’ve matched with more Texans in Colorado than I ever matched with Texans while actually living in Texas. For those of you unfamiliar with app dating, I’ll provide a crash course. Bumble gives the woman 24 hours to communicate with the man after a match is made (i.e. two mutual swipe rights). The man then has 24 hours to respond. Each user is given a daily extension, which will open the communication channel for an extra 24 hours. Once a... Read More

Where to Ski This Weekend

August 19th, 2015

Well with Wednesday’s snow, Colorado sure is feeling the winter magic now. Around Boulder grocery clerks and friendly folks keep saying “stay warm.” Toes across the Front Range shiver in wool socks and boots. And leaves? They are pretty much all gone. But this all means that ski and snowboard season is upon us! Several resorts are already open and the others will be opening very soon. Here’s where you can check out the powder this weekend. Check out the links to the resorts’ websites for more information about specific lifts and runs. Open Now Arapahoe Basin–... Read More
