How To Prepare For Your First 14er!

June 15th, 2018
Climbing your first 14er

Colorado has close to 60 14ers, which means peaks of at least 14,000 feet.  The reward for reaching the summit of one of these are some of the most breathtaking views you’ll find anywhere on the planet.  Before heading out, first-timers should take note of a few tips! Choose an ideal peak, date, and time The first step in planning for your first 14er is choosing a peak.  A good place to research your peak is AllTrails.  Choose a moderate trail for your first attempt.  The difficulty of climbing a 14er is no joke! Keep your eyes on the weather; afternoon thunderstorm are the biggest... Read More

Hiking in Evergreen

February 3rd, 2018

Recently, I wrote about hiking in Conifer as an alternative to more popular locations like Boulder and Golden. Another quiet spot that’s easy to get to is Evergreen. It’s a bit bigger than Conifer and offers a wide range of activities. For hikers, there are plenty of options in Evergreen, including Elk Meadow Park and Alderfer/Three Sisters Park. Each has over 14 miles of pet and bike friendly trails that are easy to moderate. Elk Meadow features wide open spaces and—you guessed it—plenty of elk. For something less strenuous, take Painter’s Pause to Noble Meadow (2 miles one way). For... Read More

Elevated Hiking

December 2nd, 2017

The Rocky Mountains are one of the things I love most about Colorado! Hiking the breath taking landscapes with endless trails filled with wildlife and breathing the fresh mountain air is an amazing way to connect with nature and refresh yourself! There’s something about being in nature and consuming Cannabis that really elevates the experience. One of my favorite things to do is consume Cannabis and hit the trail! Hiking is also an amazing way to be active. It’s an excellent activity to improve health and fitness by increasing muscle strength, endurance, raising your heart rate, and relieving... Read More

3-Day Colorado Road Trip Adventure: Day 2–Ouray

November 9th, 2017

Day two of my 3-Day road trip set me off to Ouray, also known as the Switzerland of America.  I decided to stop at their Visitor Center on Main Street (worth the stop).  I was assisted by Heidi who was very helpful and provided me with a map of the area that showed the streets of the town and Perimeter trail, a 5.9 mile trail that wraps around this tiny quaint city.  She marked on the map must see sights throughout the trail such as Cascade Falls and Box Canyon Falls, she also shared the shortcuts to each location if I didn’t desire to hike the entire trail. Since I wanted to make most... Read More

3-Day Colorado Road Trip Adventure: Day 1–Aspen

November 2nd, 2017

Early October I decided to take a last minute three day Colorado road trip.  I wanted the trip to include some fun and adventurous activities along with some relaxation.  I narrowed down my options to Aspen, Ouray, and Pagosa Springs and I would spend the night at each location.  My first stop would be Aspen.  The drive to Aspen during the Fall is glorious especially if you take the Independence Pass route (closed during the winter).  I must say there were a few scary turns where my heart was racing from pure terror due to the narrowness of the road but the views were spectacular. You will... Read More

Happy Fall from Steamboat!

September 22nd, 2017

I drove up to Steamboat on Thursday for a bachelorette party. And let me tell you…the drive was gorgeous! The leaves are changing colors, the wildlife is romping in the meadows, and the temperatures are great for outdoor activities. Below you will find five reasons you should visit steamboat before the first snowfall and one reason you should visit once the snow comes. Fall is in full swing- Awe yes. It is that time of year when temperatures start cooling off, which causes the leaves to change colors. Just looking out my window, I see gold everywhere. It is breath taking. The air is cool and... Read More

Coyotes in the Wild

September 15th, 2017

We have talked about mountain lions and black bears, but what do you do when you see a coyote on the trail. Last February when hiking on North Table Mesa with my faithful little companion, Auggie, and we came in proximity with a coyote. Today’s post will go over my experience as well as remind you what to do when you see a coyote. Auggie and I were doing a fantastic hike in the snow. It was a gorgeous day. When we were coming down the mountain, we saw an animal in the distance. From a distance, it looked like a dog. Auggie got very excited because he loves to meet other dogs on the trail. I started... Read More

What To Do If You Encounter a Mountain Lion

September 9th, 2017

Last week we talked about how to handle a black bear in the wild. This week we will discuss what to do if you encounter a mountain lion in the wild. It is important to be prepared for anything when you are in the wild, that includes wild life sightings. Colorado has a very robust population of mountain lions. They are beautiful, big mammals that try to live in remote, deer populated areas. They can weigh up to 200 pounds. They are generally quiet, calm, and elusive. Mountain lion attacks are extremely rare, but have been increasing over the years. The increase is attributed to more people moving... Read More
