Break The Stigma Fitness Opening!!

July 8th, 2017

(Feature photo of Jennessa taken by Kenesha Facello) Denver, CO is the world’s current capital of weed, and, with Denver being one of the fittest places in America, it’s no surprise to see so many people training with cannabis, and making gains. As consuming cannabis as an athlete increases in popularity, we’re seeing the growth of the CannaFitness industry in many forms. This includes the famous 420 Games Denver, and the opening of Break The Stigma Fitness, a cannabis friendly fitness studio opening July 23rd, with a pre-opening pary on July 9th. The studio will offer fitness classes,... Read More

Dependence Day

July 3rd, 2017

When you are on the pro-marijuana side of things it is hard to admit if there is any risk to using it. Both sides debate potential hazards of cannabis, but the topic of addiction rarely comes up. Are you addicted to weed? If your significant other, a job, or your parents asked you to stop do you think you could do it? The answer is yes you can do it because you are not addicted to weed. Weed fills the void when life gets a little mundane is all, and what some of us can develop from using it over time is a slight weed-dependent mindset. Quitting is simple, if you want to quit you got this. Don’t... Read More

The Normalization of Cannabis Through Sports

July 1st, 2017

Last night, I had the pleasure of viewing Ricardo Baca’s screening of his new project, Subculture, at Denver’s SeriesFest. It was after the screening, during the audience Q&A, when I was inspired by some of the comments made my Baca and his team. Baca is a legend in the world of cannabis, but for anyone who might need context, some of his accomplishments include being the world’s very first marijuana editor, and spearheading the formation of The Cannabist, a division of the Denver Post. Fortune magazine ranked Baca as one of the seven most powerful people in American cannabis while the... Read More

The Media’s Credibility Is Going Up In Smoke

June 27th, 2017

The way a media outlet frames a story is essential and can influence our understanding of it. Their version of a story can affect public opinion or generate awareness in a community. Historically they have been the ones to deliver the facts, less so when the topic of cannabis comes up though. By now we all realize that marijuana is not the harmful substance the last few generations believed it to be. I would wager that most of our nightly news correspondents have even tried it. So, if we are all on the same page about this stuff, then why does the media treat it so flippantly? The media seems incapable... Read More

420 Games Goes the Extra Mile High in Denver

June 24th, 2017

(Free entry/Discounted tickets here!) There is a new industry taking the cannabis community by storm, and it’s CannaFitness, also referred to as cannabis and athletics, or cannabis and sports. With so many professional athletes, and everyday gym goers, coming out of the green closet, it’s making it very clear to the public that cannabis consumers are not lazy. Having so many people stand up, to end the age old stereotype of cannabis making you lazy and stupid, people from all walks of life now have a distinguished flag to rally behind. That flag is the 420 Games, and they’re coming to Denver... Read More

Confession Of A Budtender

June 20th, 2017

This week I was criticized by a reader for not offering a true “confession” like the title of this blog suggests. Alright I have a reader! The thing is though, there is not much to expose about being a budtender. There are no secrets that need uncovering, no whistleblowing that needs doing, and no oppressive leader that needs toppling. I am not an investigative journalist up here to call out the weed industry for their abuses of power, I am just a dude who works in a weed shop. “Breaking News! Nobody likes strains that are low in THC, more on this story next week”. I like to make fun of... Read More

Let’s Talk Topicals

June 17th, 2017

I beat myself up physically, by challenging myself in training so I can be stronger, faster, and better than the day before. Training isn’t just the work you put in at the gym, or on the track, it’s also a lot about recovery. I consume cannabis in many different ways, for different reasons, as detailed in last week’s article, Consuming Cannabis as an Athlete. This week we’re going to take a closer look at topicals, how they play a role in training and recovery, and what you can do to start using topicals into your everyday wellness routines. I have had the chance to experiment and try... Read More

OK Colorado, Time to Relax on the Packaging Laws

June 13th, 2017

Until recently Colorado’s little experiment has been overseen by a group charged with coordinating efforts to implement regulation for Colorado’s recreational and medical marijuana industries. This was a group of lawmakers and medical professionals made up to aid in the roll out of legalization. The group was recently disbanded by the governor, so it can be assumed that he feels the experiment has worked thus far. Hopefully, this also means that the cannabis industry will get a little break. Every six months or so, since 2014, this industry faces changes that cause our entire business model... Read More

Consuming Cannabis as an Athlete

June 10th, 2017

Before moving to Colorado, I only had access to smoking flower as a form of consumption, unless I wanted to attempt my own edibles. Now, I have the freedom to choose from all sorts of consumption methods, and I’ve had time to experiment with them all, in order to find out what works best for my body. As mentioned in Training with Cannabis, we all need to determine what works best for us, when fitting cannabis into our wellness routines. We talked last week about Pairing different Strains with different activities and goals. This week, we’ll dive into choosing the right method of cannabis consumption... Read More

Summer Buds

With the abundance of new cannabis strains flooding the market every harvest, how is one supposed to choose? Weed is expensive and when you are looking at more variety than Rob Lowe had in the 80’s it is easy to feel overwhelmed that you may choose the wrong one, but seriously though, you will never pick the wrong one. It is always nice to go into a dispensary with a little familiarity though and that is what I am here to help with. Consider me your own personal research and development guy…for weed. This week I picked up some Watermelon Man and Maui Wowie. Here is my confession, lol. I smoked... Read More
