Anyone Can Be Under the Mask – Local Movie Reviewer Takes a Ride Through the Spider-Verse

December 9th, 2018
spider-man: into the spider-verse

Just imagine it. You step up to the corner of the skyscraper. You look down through the plastic lenses of your mask — and down is a long way down. But who cares? It’s a beautiful spring day, the sun is out, and you’re in New York City. So you step off into space, gravity catches you, and you’re cannonballing toward the ground. Lazily, you stretch your right arm out, aim, and double-tap your web shooters. The webline streams out and adheres to a wall. The line goes taut, but you’re holding on as you swing in a tight parabola. Then you let go, pull a pretty slick backflip, and momentum... Read More

M'eye Heart Imagines, Lisa Luree

Valkarie Gallery is the brainchild of Valerie Savarie and Karrie York. It was initially imagined as a space to create and show the work of artists like themselves back in 2013. Over the last five years it’s grown into an artist owned and run collective that showcases emerging and established artists from a wide variety of backgrounds. The collective itself includes watercolor artists, jewelers, paper cut artists, book sculptors, graphic designers and photographers. Valkarie has two exhibition spaces, a main gallery and a resident gallery, as well as extra studio space. From December 12th thru... Read More

Bites with Blondie: A Sexy Side of Downtown Denver

Gaetanos

Back in the early 2000’s, anyone who was anyone got their mob family fix from The Sopranos. Let’s face it; despite Tony Soprano’s outward image as the garbage man king, he was a badass, who was always taken seriously. He made a mean cocktail while counting money at the Bada Bing club, and spent each Sunday at the famed Italian joint – Bamonte’s. He always drank a glass of his favorite red wine while dunking the perfectly toasted bread into delicious pools of olive oil and balsamic vinegar. In fact, he was always eating. Not only did it make us viewers crave all the Italian classics, but... Read More

Denver Brewery Spotlight: Grab A Cask Ale At Hogshead Brewery

December 8th, 2018
Hogshead Brewery

Having heard the buzz about how fantastic Hogshead Brewery was; I knew I had to check it out for myself. So after grabbing brunch nearby Sloan’s Lake – a friend and I made our way to Hogshead Brewery for a couple brews and some girl talk. Wow! The space is small, but awesome! There’s a longer community table and a couple low tops made with rustic wood. There are even a couple Laws Whiskey House barrels turned high top! I’m not sure, but something might be aging in them too. It’s so cozy and inviting. They really made the most of the space! They have a huge patio space both... Read More

Notes: This is a continued topic from my article last week “Chef Knives: What Do The Professionals Use?” So, if you have any questions about the content or persons mentioned, please refer to my previous article. Thank you! So, now that we know what some of our beloved local professionals use in their kitchens, you have enough knowledge to go out and find your own knives, right? Well, yes, but there are other factors to consider, like the pros and cons of a specific metal over another. While it is a given to go and buy a really nice stainless steel Chef knife, there are also carbon Chef knives... Read More

We will cover everything from small inexpensive stocking stuffers to big-ticket items. It’s Natural to Crave Sugar! – 4 Tips for Managing Sugar Intake

December 6th, 2018
lump-sugar

Sugar is both a delightful treat and the bane of our existence because, while it is delicious, it also seems to be addictive. Scientific evidence is mounting to suggest that too much added sugar in our diets could lead to true addiction. Sugar is linked to addiction because when we eat it, dopamine and opioids are released into the bloodstream. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that creates a reward associated with addictive behavior. Once dopamine is released into the system, it gives us a pleasurable “high.” Why do we crave sugar? The main natural source of sugar is fruit. Thousands of years... Read More

Never Settle

December 5th, 2018

I spent the better part of this evening researching how to prevent an outdoor hose from freezing in extreme conditions with the intention of making it safely through my first winter as a full-time Airstreamer. This topic was quickly followed up by the Google searches “what is the best space heater for a travel trailer” and “how to skirt my Airstream.” Three hours into the interwebs and $427 later, I have gained an inkling of confidence that I might be able to make it out alive. Hear me when I say that “might” is the key word in that sentence. Dramatic? Maybe. But, with each place I... Read More
