It’s Halloween Weekend in Denver, and it is no surprise that we have a number of choices when combining our holiday festivities and costumes with beer drinking. There are even quite a few spots that build in events for the kiddos. Where will you be this weekend?   Caution Brewing’s Hallowbeer Bash: Friday, Oct. 27th @ 7pm-10pm All-night giveaways, Halloween classics on a projector screen, and a limited $12 keep-the-glass deal will keep you satisfied all evening at Caution Brewing in Lakewood. On the EDGE

October 27th, 2017

Edge Gallery is a small yet fascinating gallery in the 40 West Arts District just west of downtown Denver in Lakewood. Edge displays work by artists working in various mediums. There were artists working in silk dying and coloring, an interesting number with what appeared to be a wedding dress on display and decorated with objects which I assume held some sort of significance for the artist, Wynne Reynolds, abstract paintings, and other mixed media projects. The thing that stands in my mind about Edge Gallery is its welcoming and friendly atmosphere; everyone seemed to be having a good time and... Read More

Faces of Denver- Jodie Roth Cooper

October 26th, 2017

Jodie Roth Cooper is a metal sculptor and designer working and living in the RiNo Arts District of Denver, CO. He was born and raised in London, England. He moved to the United States to attend Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY. It was during his time at Skidmore that he came into metal working. After earning his undergraduate degree,  he spent time in Colorado and fell in love with the landscape. He went back to NYC to become a certified welder and then to get his master’s degree in architecture, from Cranbrook Academy of Art, in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He moved back to CO, after... Read More

Healthier Bacon?

October 26th, 2017

Recently, a technology that edits genomes was used in China to genetically modify pigs.  The result for the consumer would be pigs that are better adapted to cold weather while carrying around 24% less fat.  The technology, called CRISPR, an acronym for clusters of regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats,  has two components. First, CRISPR is essentially scissors that cut DNA.  The other component is RNA, remember that from your high school biology class?  RNA transmits biological information throughout the genome.  The RNA leads the scissors to the a precise string of compounds,... Read More

A Grow Facility Field Trip

October 25th, 2017

Cannabis blogging seems to have its perks. Last weekend I went on my first ever writing assignment. I visited Colorado Springs to check out some grow facilities and meet some investors who have plans for a much larger facility. What I got was a weekend with a bunch of young cannabis reporters and a group of questionable investors who showed a guy a pretty good time. Saturday started out with a fat joint of the Scott’s OG. Just what the doctor ordered on this crisp morning to relieve the stress and anxiety of the previous five days. Through a cloudy haze of morning weed smoke, we cruised south... Read More

Avalanche Update – Growing Pains

October 24th, 2017

The Avalanche had a quick start out of the gate with an impressive road record and home game that got many fans excited for the season. Now we are looking at a 4-4 record and currently on a three game losing streak. So what happened? Many things happened. For one, the Avs got thoroughly demolished by the Dallas Stars 3-1 in Dallas, and then went on to basically have the exact same game against the Nashville Predators with another ugly loss, losing 4-1. Then we had ourselves a controversy back home at Pepsi Center against the St. Louis Blues when a Mikko Rantanen game-tying goal late in the third... Read More

Denver Nuggets – Mile High Expectations

October 24th, 2017

With the addition of Paul Millsap and his three-year, $90 million contract, the Denver Nuggets are hoping that the pieces are finally in place to make the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2009. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray both showed flashes of brilliance last season, but the question remains if the Nuggets have enough to compete in the West. Predicting the top eight. 1) Golden State Warriors – Coming off a 67-15 Championship season, the Warriors still have Kevin Durant, Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and continue to make other teams look like the Washington Generals. 2)... Read More
