Faces of Denver – Ariane Curtis!

July 31st, 2017

When driving through the quaint town of Morrison, it’s hard to miss the tiny, vibrant, and eccentric building of the little shop called “The Happy Shack.”  After this place caught my attention, I eagerly walked in to check it out, and was met with a giant smile from one of the owners, Ariane Curtis. Ariane is a Denver native who has lived all her life in  various places throughout Colorado. After graduating from Chatfield High School, she decided to pursue a degree in Design and Technical Graphics from the Art Institute. Her goal was to be able to work on movie sets, and to... Read More

Hit Like A Girl

July 30th, 2017

Are we entering an action movie Rennaissance? Maybe, because God knows we need it. Whether we like it or not, things have changed. As much as I’m a shill for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s a fact that superhero movies have largely taken the place of action movies. They’re still around, but these days theaters are filled with spandex, Avengers, and surly mutants. We’ll still see the occasional Mission Impossible, but those tend to be the exception more than the rule. Maybe that’s a good thing. Maybe the relative drought forces us to appreciate it when a particularly... Read More

Beat the Heat on a Paddle Boarding!

July 29th, 2017

I love outdoor water activities. I am big into canoeing (on a river or a lake), Kayaking, boating, rafting, tubing, swimming, and water skiing. You name it, I love it. Because there are so many water activities, I haven’t thought about trying something new until recently. Last weekend, or the first time ever, I went paddle boarding. I had a blast and can’t wait to do it again! I went to Big Soda Lake Reservoir just off C470 in Morrison. But you can paddle board anywhere there is water. Some popular places near Denver include: Chatfield Reservoir, Cherry Creek Reservoir, Aurora Reservoir, and... Read More

The UMS Weekend

July 28th, 2017

It is one of my favorite weekends of the year here in Denver: The Underground Music Showcase takes over South Broadway from Thursday to Sunday night. Offering incredible local bands and city-wide favorites, the Baker neighborhood transforms into a bustling music scene in several bars, restaurants and venues. Even if you aren’t willing to purchase a day or weekend pass to enjoy the show, it is fun to be experience even just walking around. Here is a list of my favorite spots with excellent beer choices and a few breweries near the area thrown in to take a break from the madness when needed:   Hi-Dive... Read More
