Secrets of the Universe

February 26th, 2020

There’s a deep vein of eroticism that ties together Marc Acito’s new play that’s running at the Aurora Fox Arts Center. None of the characters actually have sex during the (inter)course of the play, but if you define “eroticism” as “the energy of creativity and connection,” then all of the characters are neck-deep in it. The story told on stage is the true-but-little-known episode of 1930’s American history where Albert Einstein (yes, *the* Einstein) hosts famed vocalist Marian Anderson in his home because hotels were unwilling to offer lodging to African-Americans. Supporting the... Read More

Cannabis and Fitness Research Goes Mainstream

May 4th, 2019

Cannabis consumers are typically portrayed as lazy, and have had the couch locked stigma association in mainstream media over the years. With new research from the University of Colorado Boulder released, the topic about cannabis and fitness is going mainstream. The stigma about cannabis consumers being lazy is being shattered by science. Men’sHealth, Maxim, The Denver Channel, Medical Marijuana, Inc., MSN and The Denver Post are just a few of many discussing the recent research. The research surveyed 600 adult cannabis consumers from states where cannabis is legal for adult use. When asked if... Read More

Denver Science Cafe

I’m sure that all of you, my faithful readers, have been eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series “Denver Has a Smokin’ Hot Creative Science Communication Scene.” Your wait has ended! Today is the day we talk about Denver Science Cafe! To be clear, there isn’t, actually, a small restaurant called the Denver Science Cafe that serves American bistro food, has a decor of local artists’ renderings of double-helix motifs, and hosts open-mic nights featuring singer-songwriters performing sad ballads about their unrequited love of isotopes. I dearly wish that that theme-performance... Read More

Science Riot

Science Riot

This is my seventh year in Denver. In the Biblical tale of Creation, God took six days to build the world and then, seeing that it was good, on the seventh day He rested. Fitting, then, that this is my seventh year in Denver and I see that it is good, indeed. Yes, I may have just compared myself to the Almighty. Contemplating the Rockies makes one feel a bit divine, especially if one is currently at altitude and may or may not have taken a hit off one’s buddy’s recreational spliff, which is itself a Denver religious experience. After seven years, what would I say gives this rowdy, ethereal,... Read More

A Healthy Hemp Panel

April 21st, 2018

The Terpenes and Testing Magazine World Conference, described as “the most promising and comprehensive cannabis science expo in the United States,” was held April 11-12 in San Jose, CA. This two-day conference was a collection of the top cannabis science experts in the world. It is currently the largest gathering of cannabis science thought leaders on the planet and I feel honored to have been involved. Antonio and I both had the pleasure of participating as panelists on their Hemp Panel. We spoke about how hemp is part of our daily lives as a food source, a natural plant medicine, and how... Read More
