Lauren Maytin: Featured Attorney!

Aspen’s own Lauren Maytin, of the firm of Edson & Maytin, is our FIRST OnAspen Featured Lawyer. She has certainly earned the distinction! With her partner Warren Edson, she has been a statewide leader in marijuana legalization and regulation in Colorado. Edson & Maytin were key movers and shakers in the passage of Colorado’s Amendment 20 Medical Marijuana legalization in Colorado. Their contributions since then  have been non-ending.

Her being our Featured Lawyer coincides with the NORML Legal Committee’s conference in Aspen, a yearly event. This year she is being honored by being selected as the Moderator of the conference on its first day.  This privileged accolade is reserved for NLC NORML Legal Committee members who have, through dedication and contributions to the cause of legalization of marijuana, earned the distinction. This year’s NLC lawyers who are moderating days of the conference are Lauren,  Keith Stroup himself, the creator of NORML in 1970, and AboutBoulder’s own Lenny Lensworth Frieling. Lensworth shares the distinction of again moderating a day of the conference, joining Lauren this year.

Born and raised in southeastern Virginia, Lauren began visiting Colorado in 1975. Her early exposure to Colorado instilled in her a love affair with Colorado and its mountains.  Lauren moved to Colorado in 1989 to attend the University of Colorado, Boulder. After undergraduate school, she lived briefly in Crested Butte, enjoying the ski instructor’s life.  Lauren needed more than Crested Butte had to offer and she left to attend the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law.  From 1999 until 2002, Lauren practiced law throughout the state of Colorado as a Colorado Deputy State Public Defender. After learning how to litigate a criminal case, Lauren moved to New York City for a short time, and then Aspen, working for Weitz & Luxenberg on  complex asbestos mass tort litigation.  Simultaneously, Lauren began taking on criminal cases again for her own boutique firm, The Law Office of Lauren R. Maytin.  Warren Edson and Lauren Maytin played pivotal roles in the drafting and passage of Amendment 20.  Lauren’s dedication is ongoing and significant! She currently continues to serve on the Colorado NORML Board of Directors.  The Law offices of Edson & Maytin are pioneers and ongoing stars in the marijuana industry.

Lauren Is At Home On Ajax, and At Home In the Courtrooms of Colorado

Lauren is a lifetime member of NORML, and was the John Flowers Mark NORML Scholarship winner in 2001.  She is a member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar and is a member of the Colorado Bar Associations’ Ethics Committee.  She has written ethics opinions and testified in front of the Colorado Supreme Court on behalf of attorneys representing state compliant cannabis clients.

Congratulations Lauren! You have earned this privilege and focus. We at OnAspen are thrilled with your selection as our our first Featured Aspen Lawyer!
