Faces of Denver – Shane Mass!
Shane Mass is a recent graduate from the University of Colorado where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. Ultimately his dream is to become a Physician Assistant and that dream is now within reach. Shane has been selected to attend the Physician Assistant program at Samuel Merritt University in Oakland, Ca and he’s thrilled and honored for such an opportunity.
Being able to help others has been his calling from early on. He served as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) Paramedic in Glenwood, Iowa and then made the decision to follow a higher calling, “when 9/11 happened I enlisted into the military and went into active duty Navy as a Corpsman and was attached to the Marine Corps as a Fleet Marine Force Medic for four years.”
This past winter he worked as an Emergency Services Response Officer at Keystone’s Ski Resort and during his off-duty time he enjoyed ripping through their slopes. With a sparkle in his eyes he says, “I love Colorado, I love the mountains, I love camping, I love fly fishing, and hiking and being out in the mountains and checking all the sceneries out there.”
When asked what’s his favorite thing to do, he further shares, “My favorite thing to do would be going on my yearly camping/fishing trip that my partner and I go on…we go for a week and we go wherever and fly fish and camp for a week solid, so it’s pretty cool…You just get away, escape the everyday hustle of life, you’re able to just get out into the wilderness, take a break, step back from reality, take nature in, just let everything happen and flow around you.”
